Development of ITS Infrastructures in Implementation of the ITS Code
We are developing and implementing the necessary infrastructure in the Non-Interconnected Islands (NIIs) to fully implement the provisions of the NIS Code. The project consists of six sub-projects:
- Metering Infrastructure
- Methodological Infrastructure
- NII Information System
- Energy Control Centres (ECCs) in Athens and Rhodes
- Energy Control Centres (ECCs) in the remaining electricity systems of NIIs
- Development of SCADA Infrastructures in 27 electricity systems of NIIs
START • 2015
The project is currently in progress, with the following activities underway:
- Development of infrastructure for a central Energy Control Center in Athens and a local Energy Control Center in Rhodes: we are currently in Phase 2: System Implementation and Acceptance Testing, while Phase 1: Detailed Design has been completed.
- Development of SCADA Infrastructure in 27 electrical systems of the NIIs: This subproject has been completed.
- Development of Methodological Infrastructure for the NIIs:
The proposed Daily Energy Planning and retrospective operation reports for all systems have been published. We also completed the manuals for NII market operation and updating, followed by the implementation of the NII Code methodology regarding conventional unit remuneration and specific fuel consumption curves. - Development of the NII Information System (NII-IS): This subproject is currently in progress.
- Installation of energy meters for the conventional units of Thermal Power Stations: This subproject has been completed.
- Development of ECC Infrastructure in the remaining 27 electrical systems of the NIIs: This subproject is in progress.
New systems and services
Electronic energy meters, communication units for telemetering of meters and metering transformers
EMS – SCADA
Market Management System (servers & software)
Renewable Energy Estimation and Management Software
Data warehouse & servers in Athens and locally in each of the 27 NEMs
Telecommunication equipment
Project benefits
The benefits of the project implementation include:
Objective determination of production costs in the NPIs
Objectively measuring the cost-effective operation of the conventional generation units, reducing the burden of Utility Services (USS) on consumers
Maximising the penetration of RES in the energy balance of the islands, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply
