Electromobility

At HEDNO, we support the electrification of transport and energy transition.

Why electromobility?

We support electromobility because it plays a key role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, increasing the penetration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) into the energy mix, and cutting down on air and noise pollution from transportation—ultimately improving the quality of life in urban areas.

What is electromobility?

Everyone talks about electromobility, but what does it really mean? Electromobility describes the use of electric vehicles and the infrastructure that supports them. It includes various types of vehicles, hardware, software, and the necessary charging services for their daily operation.

Our role in electromobility

We ensure transparent and impartial access for all electromobility users to the Electricity Distribution Network.

We ensure optimal integration of electromobility into the Network and the maximization of RES usage for charging electric vehicles.

We specify the connection terms for electric vehicle recharging infrastructure to the distribution network. We support help by providing a digital application for the submission of connection requests for recharging infrastructure to the Network.

We support municipalities in the development of Electric Vehicle Charging Plans (EVCPs).

We define the technical specifications for electric vehicle recharging infrastructure in public spaces. The connection to the distribution network is implemented underground for safety and aesthetic enhancement, and we provide the option of installing HEDNO’s metering equipment inside the recharging infrastructure, to avoid occupying additional sidewalk space.

We support urban transport organizations in defining new connection needs to the distribution network that arise from the electrification of their vehicle fleets.

We participate in European research projects in the fields of energy, electromobility, and information technology, associated with smart grid issues. The studies focus on managing electromobility loads as a flexibility source (flexible load & vehicle to grid) to maximize RES penetration in the energy mix and to ensure optimal management of the Distribution Network.

We support the Smart & Sustainable Island program implemented by the Hellenic State and the VW Group in Astypalea, in matters concerning the Distribution Network.

We participate in synergies of the Smart & Sustainable Island program and the Special Pilot Project of Astypalea, which includes the implementation of a Hybrid Station (RES and storage system). The study of the Special Pilot Project in Astypalea has been revised to ensure that electric vehicles are powered exclusively by RES.

At HEDNO, we use electric vehicles ourselves. In this context, our corporate fleet has been majorly electrified, and further electrification is planned, with the primary goal of reducing HEDNO’s carbon footprint and supporting the development of the electromobility market in Greece.

The future of electromobility

Electromobility is not just a trend – it’s the evolution of transportation. With advancing technology and increasing demand, electric vehicles are becoming more affordable, environmentally friendly, and efficient.

The adoption of electromobility contributes to the reduction of pollutant emissions and the improvement of urban quality of life. At HEDNO, we support this transition, ensuring the availability and reliability of the Distribution Network for all.
