ALFION-INFRA
UPGRADE OF ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE PORT OF IGOUMENITSA
Summary/Scope
The project addresses construction works for the deployment of Shore-Side Electricity Supply (SSES) for three positions serving freight and passenger vessels as well as studies and tender documentation for one additional SSES position for cruise vessels. The project will be implemented in the core maritime port of Igoumenitsa, which is located in north-western Greece and is part of the Orient/East-Med Core Network Corridor.
The objective of the project is the transformation of the port of Igoumenitsa into a greener, technologically advanced port. It aims to achieve maritime emission-free operations and enhance the port performance through the upgrading and optimisation of the port’s energy network and the quality of its services, while ensuring the economic and environmental viability of the port. It will increase the port’s energy efficiency contributing to the decarbonization of the transport system in line with the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.
ALFION-INFRA represents the continuation of the project “ALFION”, also co-funded from the Connecting Europe Facility, which delivered the necessary technical studies, tender documents, and environmental and financial studies required for this project.
