Network Upgrades of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO)
As part of Action 16900, “Network Upgrades of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO)”, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”), HEDNO has implemented projects to upgrade, underground and modernize the Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) Distribution Network in forest areas and urban centres throughout Greece.
Project Objective
The objective of the Action is to enhance the resilience and reliability of the electricity Distribution Network, improve the quality of electricity supply, reduce the frequency and duration of power outages, and protect the natural environment.
At the same time, the modernization and upgrading of the Distribution Network are of critical importance, as they create more favorable technical conditions for the overall development of the electricity system and the further integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES).
The project complements another co-funded project and contributes to the achievement of specific energy and environmental protection objectives.
Key Figures & Funding
Total Project Budget: €332 million
Recovery and Resilience Facility Grant: €100 million
Total MV and LV Network Upgraded/Undergrounded: 3,370 km
Scope
The Action comprises interventions across the entire country, including:
Under Action 16900, approximately 3,370 km of the Distribution Network will be upgraded, undergrounded and modernized, with particular emphasis on the upgrading of the Medium Voltage network in forest areas and urban centers across the country.
More specifically, the Action targets the upgrading of more than 2,900 km of the Medium Voltage network and includes the undergrounding or relocation of electricity distribution lines in forest areas and urban centers, as well as the reinforcement of the Low Voltage network.
The project is being implemented under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”, with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
